CHECKLIST FOR REGISTERING TO TAKE THE GED AT MICHIGAN STATE

- REGISTRATION APPOINTMENT: Before you may schedule any Testing Appointments, you must schedule a Registation Appointment.
- Registration & Payment will take approximately one hour.
- Registration appointments may be scheduled at your convenience weekdays between 8-5. Call 517-355-8278.
- After registration has been completed, you may begin scheduling your Testing Appointments. These may be scheduled all at once, or separately, in any order you wish.
- TESTING APPOINTMENTS: Please note--we test year round, but generally post schedules for only 1-2 months at a time. If these times fill up, or if they are impossible for your schedule, we might be able to schedule a few individual testing times during regular office hours.
- COST:
- $175 for the full battery
- $35 per exam for re-testing
- WHAT TO BRING TO THE REGISTRATION APPOINTMENT [Checklist] :
- You must be eligible to take the GED. See eligibility rules below. If you are 16-18, one or two letters may be required.
- Be sure you have these letters with you when you come to register.
- An official valid picture I.D. (such as Michigan drivers license, State of Michigan I.D., passport, or military I.D.) Proper I.D. is required for registration. If you do not have proper I.D., wait until you have obtained it before making your registration appointment.
- $175 (cash or check) for the full battery
- --or-- $35 per test (cash or check) if you are re-testing
- --or-- A letter from a recognized school/agency authorizing us to bill them for your fee.
- ARE YOU ELIGIBLE TO TAKE THE GED? --- Click on and read or print out the “Michigan GED Jurisdictional Requirements” prior to your arrival. The official document has all the details, but listed below are the highlights:
- If you are 18, you must provide written proof that you have been formally withdrawn from regular K-12 instruction for over 1 year OR you must submit a completed MSU-GED Waiver of One Year Wait Requirement Form (available on our website or from our office)
- If you are 16 or 17, you must provide
- written proof that you have been formally withdrawn from regular K-12 instruction for over 1 year
- AND you must provide written approval from your parent or guardian stating that s/he believes it is in your best interest to complete the GED rather than stay in school.
- Or , instead of submitting items 1& 2, you must submit a completed MSU-GED Waiver of One Year Wait Requirement Form (available on our website or from our office)
- PREPARING FOR THE GED : Nearly every school and public library has GED study guides. You will also find study guides in bookstores. (If you are using a study guide and working on your own, consult the Test Preparation section of this website for suggestions on “how” to study for maximum benefit.)
